TMA-CHA Architects is pleased to present its entry for Cottage Communities, a design competition organized by the Fort Worth chapter of the AIA.
With over 2,000 local individuals who are homeless on any given night, Tarrant County is ever in need of economical solutions for affordable and subsidized housing. In response, a church in the Near Southside neighborhood has donated a half-acre site for the purpose of building a small planned community that will serve as an alternative to local homeless shelters.
The program calls for a collection of several “micro-living” cottage houses and shared green space, along with spaces that help engage residents with the community at large. Individuals living in this cottage community will have a verdant and lively place to call home, giving them much-needed stability to thrive and possibly emerge from homelessness.
